EPS Satellite Conference on Plasma Diagnostics 2013
Jump to:
Scope
The Plasma Physics Division of the European Physical Society (EPS) is considering to set up a biennial conference in the field of plasma diagnostics. The first edition of the EPS Plasma Diagnostics Conference will be organized as a satellite to the main EPS Conference on Plasma Physics that will take place in July 2013 in Espoo, Finland. How to continue with Plasma Diagnostics Conference from 2015 onwards will depend on the success of the first edition.
The scope of the Plasma Diagnostics Conference is broad and encompasses diagnostics that are used in all areas of plasma research. Specifically included are diagnostics that fit in the four categories of the main EPS Plasma Physics Conference:
- magnetic confinement fusion (MCF),
- beam plasma and inertial fusion (BPIF),
- low temperature plasmas (LTP), and
- basic and astrophysical plasmas (BAP).
The program committee of the Plasma Diagnostics Conference is made up of:
- Dimitri Batani
- Uwe Czarnetzki
- Tony Donné (chair)
- Nataly Ganushkina
- Andrea Murari
- Svetlana Ratynskaia
Program
The Satellite Conference on Plasma Diagnostics will take place during the full Saturday, July 6th. Additionally there will be a joint session with the main EPS Conference, earlier in the week. The central theme of the joint session is devoted to: How have novel 2D and 3D diagnostic capabilities enhanced our physics understanding and how do the needs for enhancing our physics understanding drive the development of new 2D and 3D diagnostics?
The sessions on Saturday are a combination of invited talks, contributed talks, and posters. The tentative version of the program can be found below:
Fees and Registration
A rather small additional fee of 60 Euro (on top of the fee for the EPS Conference itself) is requested for people that participate in the EPS Satellite Conference on Plasma Diagnostics. This fee covers the rent of the meeting room and the lunch on Saturday, as well as coffee during the morning and afternoon breaks. Participants should of course take care that they book hotel accommodation for one additional night. Registration to the satellite meeting is done concomitant with the main EPS conference registration: tick the box "I will attend the EPS Satellite Conference on Plasma Diagnostics 2013" in the registration form. If you wish to participate only in the Saturday sessions of the Diagnostics Satellite Conference, please contact the local organizing committee for detailed instructions.
Contributions
For the first edition of the Plasma Diagnostics Conference the Proceedings will be published in the same way as the proceedings of the main conference (e.g. the invited papers are published in a special edition of Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, while the contributed 4-page papers will be published in the Europhysics Conference Abstracts). Although there is normally a strict policy at the EPS Conference that a participant is allowed to only submit a single paper, it is permitted to have both a paper in the main conference as well as in the Diagnostics Satellite Conference (max. 1 paper per conference). For this purpose the submission of papers for the Diagnostics Satellite Conference is done via a separate webpage.
Abstracts
Abstract submission is open from February 4th 2013 to March 8th 2013 .
The abstract submission has ended.
Abstracts and papers can only be submitted via the online submission system. All submissions are final once the author clicks the "Finish Submission" -button. Submissions by email or other means will not be taken into consideration. Please respect the submission deadlines.
Templates for the abstract:
- For WYSIWYG text editor users: template file in RTF format (compatible with many text editors, such as MSWord).
- For LaTeX users: LaTeX class file, LaTeX sample file, sample PDF format figure. (Note: not all LaTeX versions can handle PDF format figures. Yet the sample file should also be able handle PS or EPS format figures after a minor modification, as indicated in the LaTeX sample file).
Submitted documents must be in PDF format. Other formats (MsWord, TeX, Postscript, ...) are not acceptable.

Oral presentations
The allotted time for oral presentations is:
- Plenary invited oral: 35 minutes (including 5 minutes for discussion)
- Contributed oral: 15 minutes (including 3 minutes for discussion)
Speakers must keep strictly to time due to the large number of presentations.
The projectors at Dipoli have the following resolution: 1024x768 (4:3 aspect ratio). The room Poli, is reserved for speakers preparations: The slides can be uploaded and tested before the presentation and the remote control for the slides can be studied. The slides can also be sent by e-mail to eps2013-slidesaalto.fi. In any case, include the presentation code and presenting author last name in the file name, please.
Poster presentations
The largest poster that will certainly fit to a poster board is portrait A0: 84.1 cm wide and 118.9 cm high. The organizers will provide fasteners for the posters.
An on-site printing service will be provided.
